Short Bio of Speaker
"The most moving speech I've heard in parliament this year by a good distance wasn't delivered in the House of Representatives or the Senate. Nor was the orator a politician. "
"A tall, attractive woman named Cynthia Morton rose to speak. Those of us in the room, including Health Minister Tony Abbott, struggled to fight back tears. Looking at Morton, it seemed impossible to comprehend she'd lived through such a nightmare. Somehow she'd contrived to turn her life around. This required tremendous willpower and suffering; that she resisted, persisted and thrived strikes me as one of life's lovely miracles. " Wrote journalist Matt Price in the Weekend Australian - September 2005.
Cynthia Morton is a twice published best selling Australian author, painter, public speaker, single mother of two teenage sons and Chief Executive Officer and founder of the Emotional Fitness Foundation.
Having worked with over 7000 Australians facing emotionally challenging life issues such as addiction, abuse, self sabotaging cycles, divorce, death, bankruptcy and depression, Cynthia is in high demand as an Emotional Fitness expert.
Her expertise is derived not only from her large client base within the corporate arena, education and health departments, corrective services and the private sector - but also from her own life experiences. After 19 years of drug and alcohol abuse she became clean and sober in 1995 and commenced to heal from a childhood of abuse. Her change in lifestyle in 1995 ended her marriage, so she started over as a single mother and became a successful twice published author, founder of a national charity and award winning business woman.
Her groundbreaking Emotional Fitness Program has been recognised with the following awards:
- 2002 National First Prize documentary "Emotional Fitness " the 22 minute documentary based on the first pilot of this work, claimed first prize at Ausfest, the national award ceremony for Australian film and documentary makers.
- 2003 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Child Protection Committee in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the prevention of child harm.
- 2004 Award of Distinction from Australian Medical Association in recognition of the long-standing interest and support for the high ideals of the medical profession and service to humanity.
- 2005 Australian of the Year winner in the Local Hero Category in Queensland in recognition for her creation of the Emotional Fitness Program.
"Cynthia Morton has some important, powerful-yet-simple messages for anyone with a willing concern for others. The power of her messages is magnified by their simplicity, her honesty and by the telling juxtaposition of her frightening life story. I saw her at an early breakfast meeting following a late conference dinner. Under those circumstances, very few speakers could have kept me as enthralled as I was, and empowered me to take action. I could have happily listened to her for hours. " Matthew Eton - Editor, Australian Pharmaceutical Publishing Co. Ltd

Synopsis of Presentation: I have written two books about how to assist others in learning how to live more peacefully with themselves. The essence of my message is that "Pain is the gift that nobody wants ". In hindsight most people will admit that some of their most painful, hellish experiences have been the most educational, character building and valuable. Those that have this perspective have not run from the problem, but worked through it, climbed out of the pit of hell and are much wiser for it.
Most people spend the second half of their life getting over the first. However some people don't get over their problems, if they have no information on how to help themselves. My presentations help people learn how to help themselves.
Who Should Attend: All of the above and teens
How you will benefit: One of my testimonials may best explain the benefits of my presentations:
