Short Bio of Speaker

Pat Armitstead, New Zealand’s leader in the Science of Positive Psychology or Humour and Laughter in the Workplace is an International Award Winning business owner with over 30 years experience in Business Communications, Leadership and Advertising roles.  Initially a Registered Nurse she worked for 16 years in Nurse Education and Management roles and was part of the group of nurses that took Nurse Education in NSW out of public hospitals and into Universities.  In 1989 she founded her own Advertising Agency, Take One Productions and won many awards including the prestigious NSW Tourism Award, Media Section and an award from Cacharel in Paris for a fragrance promotion. She has presented over 11,000 hours of keynotes, workshops and seminars reaching an astounding 55,000 people throughout Australasia.

She has presented over 300 humour based programs in the last 3 years and her personal vision is to inspire others to live into their life purpose and direction with humour and joy.  She says “The World Health Authority says depression is currently world health burden number four.  They predict by 2020 it will be number two.  My business vision is that by 2020 we will be having an intimacy revolution and transforming global pessimism to optimism. “

Change management, innovation and 'getting the most out of people' was identified by the Hudson Report as the three key development areas needed for business leaders today. Pat helps business leaders to boost productivity and bottom line by producing an efficient, effective, and high trust work environment.  She shows them how to use positive psychology in all levels of management, leadership, customer service and sales.

Pat also shows how to bring back the passion, energy and fun at work and is the perfect choice for merging companies, company celebrations, company commiserations, new companies seeking redirection, launching new strategies, new years – re-energising themselves etc.

A multi talented artist she uses her skills as a milliner, dressmaker, journalist, scriptwriter, make up artist, camera operator and director to help others tap into their creativity.  She uses the art of improvisation (she is a trained improv performer) and clowning skills to foster spontaneity and facilitate efficient and effective decision making.

She is also able to incorporate Good Grief programs into the workplace, assisting people to support each other through both personal and business associated loss.  As part of this process she uses healing art forms such as bodycasting with plaster of paris and the use of latex.

Her clients in NZ include Coca Cola Amatil, Royal Australasian Society of Paediatricians, The Diversional Therapists Association, Child Heart Foundation, Bayleys Real Estate, Fertility NZ, Martin Personnel, Women in Business, The Mental Health Association Workforce, Fairfax Ltd, Epiphany, National OSH Society, Arthritis Foundation,  Mercy Hospice, Carich NZ, University of Auckland, The Institute of Applied Learning, and  Lupus Trust.

She was 2002 National Speakers Association New Zealand Speaker of the Year and The Most Awarded Speaker at the 2000 NSANZ Convention.  She has toured internationally, most recently with Dr Patch Adams and is writing her first book.  She has been in her own business since 1989, and has convened two International Conventions for the National Speakers Association of New Zealand.  She was runner up in the Entrepreneur section of the NZ Sales and Marketing Institute awards 2005 and is now a Director on that same board.

She has a regular column in the Auckland Business to Business newspaper and has appeared on National Television and been featured in many magazines and newspapers. In 2006 she is hosting New Zealands first Humour in the Workplace Awards with the Business to Business newspaper as major sponsor.
